Some figures for the Big River Clean Up.
17 Friends took part which equals 51 volunteer hours.
Approximately 60 bags of rubbish were collected – (estimate 1.5 tonnes?)
Litter was cleared from the lake area and all the paths and stream banks right down to Pennine Way.
With your help we have made a big difference to the tidiness of this beautiful park. Let’s hope people take notice and keep it cleaner in the future.
Thanks also to the rangers Chris and Owen and to CBC and the Community Forum who provided the gloves, bags, truck etc.
It was also great to receive the support of the Mayor of Chesterfield, Councillor Peter Barr which all helps with promoting the park and the work of the Friends of HBVP group.
Thankfully the weather was kind to us and the stream was not running as high as it was on Sunday morning after Saturday night’s rain!
It was encouraging to meet several people who came up to us and asked to join the Friends group and help with the next clean up. Perhaps we’ll do another in the autumn? Please let us have your views on this.
Look out for the photo in the Derbyshire Times next week.
Thank you once again for all your hard work on Saturday – It was an amazing team effort.
Best wishes
