The money for the new playground came from Central Government Aiming High Capital Grant. The Derbyshire County Council had allocated £500,000 to be made available to District and Borough Councils to bid for projects that will improve opportunities for disabled children and young people to become involved in leisure, sport and play activities, in particular, with non disabled peers and siblings.
Each District or Borough Council could bid for a maximum of £100,000.
Bids to the fund were prepared for new play spaces at HoImebrook Valley Park.
In mid October the Council was notified that the bid for a proposed play space at Holmebrook Valley Park was successful. The playground and Petanque area were finished mid March 2012.
