Friends of Holmebrook Valley Park
January 2012 Newsletter
At the last meeting of the Friends of Holmebrook Valley Park (FHVP) held in November at Eyre Chapel, the guest speaker, John Ramsey from Chesterfield Borough Council, outlined the plans of another new playground for the park. This is in addition to the one installed near the Linacre Road car park and opened by the Mayor in October. The new playground to be built near the park Pavilion by spring 2012 and will cater primarily for all children aged 0-7 and their families.
At the same time, some new special boules pitches will be created near the pavilion car park.
Internal building alterations will be made in the Pavilion this spring to create a new multi purpose community room.
FHVP are linking with the local RSPB group to design and build bird feeding tables for the park. The park rangers are holding some hedge laying and woodland coppicing days in January and February where you can come and have a go and learn some new skills. (see Pavilion for details). You can already see how this has opened up a view from near the pavilion car park down to the lake! It will also improve the wildlife habitat.
Finally – Do you fancy joining in our Big Spring Stream Clean? Local community groups and individuals are invited to join in the clean up of the Holme Brook stream in the Loundsley Green and Holmebrook Valley Park area. Organized in conjunction with the Community Forum, the event will be held on Saturday 17th March starting at 9.00 a.m. All welcome. Bring wellies!
The next meeting of Friends of Holmebrook Valley Park will be held at 7.00 p.m. at the Nags Head pub, Newbold Road on Wednesday 11th January. We look forward to seeing you.
